The Department of Theatre’s faculty is comprised of seventeen distinguished professional theatre artists and renowned theatre scholars, including recipients of the Tony Award, Helen Hayes Award, Emmy Award, and the Barnard Hewitt Award.
Our shared commitment to cultivating new theatre artists has initiated collaborative partnerships with various acclaimed regional theatre companies, creating vibrant productions on the academic stage as well as the professional stage.
The Department has a significant international presence, with study abroad programs, participation in conferences, professional productions and performances, as well as current research projects in various countries, including Cuba, Ghana, Russia, and the United Kingdom.
Located in the state-of-the-art Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, the Department of Theatre has the unique opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration with the School of Music, Department of Dance and the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library.

The Department of Theatre offers a full range of degree programs including the BA in Theatre, MFA in Design, MFA in Performance (anticipated 2010), MA and PHD in Theatre and Performance Studies, and mounts five main-season productions each academic year.
