PUBLIC SAFETY

The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center is designed for multiple departments and multiple functions. The building's open floor plan that encourages these interactions requires an increased awareness for safety and security. The Department of Public Safety has installed cameras in and around the building. Campus phones are located throught the building and can be used to call for assistance, request an escort or report suspicious persons or behavior to the DPS. Blue emergency phones are located outside the building in the Music courtyard, Dance courtyard, Back Courtyard, at the loading dock in the rear of the building and at the drop off circle in the front of the building. There is one by the parking garage and one at the traffic circle.

Building hours are 7 AM to 11 PM. On weekends the front lobby doors and the Prince Georges County entrance are the only doors open. Card readers give access to authorized users after hours. Theatre faculty, staff and currently registered students may gain access by swiping their ID card. Cards can be activated by contacting Rita Phelps at 301.405.6694. Do not prop doors open under any circumstances.

The few thefts in the building have mostly been from lockers. Be sure to purchase a sturdy lock to install on lockers which contain valuables. Always secure rooms, labs, and storage facilities when you leave.

Your personal safety is important to us! Always...
