Respected Canadian playwright George F. Walker drew from grade B movies, absurdism, and film noir to create this second play in the trilogy known as The Power Plays. As Tyrone Power (Professor Hébert) gets pulled into an investigation of murder and intrigue, he uncovers political corruption, dishonesty and the requisite dead body. Student performers relished the opportunity to work with director/actor Jerry Whidden, former Artistic Director of Round House Theatre and Mitchell Hébert, professor of acting and directing. In this tumultuous re-telling of the Cinderella fairy tale, the Ash Girl confronts her deepest, darkest sorrows and the metaphorical seven deadly sins, before discovering her real self and her happily-ever-after. Directed by Assistant Professor Leslie Felbain, the production incorporated puppets created by Jim Henson Artist-in-Residence Ralph Lee and graduate and undergraduate Theatre students, who volunteered for a winter-term workshop. Some of the puppet creations will soon be on display in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.

Social revolt and chaos underlies Marisol's personal sturggle in this tale of "magical realism." Perhaps one of the most avant-guarde productions to be presented by the Department of Theatre, the audience will find a journey that is simultaneously harrowing yet touching and uplifting. Theatre Major and Assistant Director, Javier Jesus Mendez is especially looking forward to working with guest director José Carrasquillo on this play he describes as "innovative and stimulating."
