DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE 2007-2008 SEASON

Urinetown
October 11 - 19, 2007
Kay Theatre
book and lyrics by Greg Kotis
music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann
directed by Scot Reese

Poking fun at government, bureaucracy and the corporate world, this Tony award-winning musical is set in a world where water depletion has made the "privilege to pee" an expensive proposition. Borrowing shamelessly from works of Brecht, Weill and Broadway's classics, Urinetown pits the forces of good against evil, and bladder control against perjury.

Written at the height of the Cold War, when scientific innovation was viewed largely as suspect and potentially dangerous, Dürrenmatt weaves a murder mystery with bizarre humor and wacky situations to question whether man can be trusted with destructive knowledge. The Physicists asks the question: "Is science ultimately responsible to humanity?"

Filthy Rich

Kogod Theatre
