Ushering, Shop and Crew Extra Credit

Ushering:
Usher for a production at the University of Maryland, College Park (maximum 20 points/total ushering extra credit). You may receive extra credit for ushering up to 2 times over the course of the semester. You must bring a program signed by the Head Usher as proof of ushering to your Discussion Leader in order to receive extra credit points. Remember, students who break a commitment to usher will have the points they would have earned deducted from their final grade.

For ushering extra credit: Contact Lori Lentner Schwartz via email <link> cscvolunteers@umd.edu. In the body of the email, give the name of the show you are interested in and list a minimum of three possible dates you are available. Your request must be submitted at least two weeks in advance of the show date. The box office will reply within one week.

Ushers must check in at the theatre one hour before show time. They will provide a proof of ushering slip signed by the house manager. There is no specific dress code to usher, but no jeans or sneakers.

Students can find up to date performance dates and times on the Center's
website which is www.claricesmithcenter.umd.edu.

Shop and Crew:
You may earn up to fifty (50) extra credit points by working in the Department of Theater’s shop or on a crew for a Department of Theater production. There are varying opportunities in each shop. These will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. No shop is obligated to provide an extra credit opportunity. Once the available positions are filled opportunities will no longer be available. It is the obligation of the student to meet the hours committed to in this contract once scheduled with the shop supervisor. All calls must be a minimum of two hours. The shop supervisors are as follows:

COSTUME SHOP Sue Chiang
LIGHT SHOP Jeff Reckeweg
OFF CENTER David Kriebs
SOUND SHOP Kristine Doyle
SCENE SHOP (includes paint & prop) Rick Weinard

Students who are accepted for a shop or crew position need to print and fill out a contract outlining the terms of their duties. This contract is also available from your Discussion Leader.
